Philosophy of Education
Dear Students and Parents-
I believe learning is unique to each child and many different teaching strategies should be used in order for all students to learn. Each student is equally important and each brings their own set of gifts but also their own set of needs. Every child in the class deserves to have these needs met and a teacher who will show them that they care about them. Students and teachers both bear responsibility in the learning process. Learning should happen through a hands- on learning approach so that students may learn as they go and connect it to their own personal experiences. Students should come to class ready to share their own student interests which should shape the teacher’s lessons and instructions and make learning relevant and exciting in their lives, which will encourage creativity and exploration. As a teacher, I believe my responsibility is to be the students guide in order to get them excited and motivated to learn higher-order critical thinking skills.
My approach to behavioral management is a proactive approach. By this I mean that I will structure my class and classroom activities in advance to preclude behavioral problems whenever possible. By being proactive, a teacher may be able to prevent problems and provide further stability in the classroom. This will make for more stability in the classroom which will help meet the basic needs of all students so that they are comfortable with the environment and can learn. I do not believe that grades should ever be used against the student as a punishment. Punishment should be given only when necessary and should be of the same level of the crime. Teachers should expect everything from their students and believe that they can go as far as they allow their education to take them.
A successful teacher must be flexible, be able to reflect on ideas that work and ideas
that do not work, take this information and make the necessary adjustments to curriculum through formative assessments to make sure that students have learned. Students will only go as far and as high as the teacher expects and encourages them to go! I look forward to the privilege and the joy of impacting children’s lives! Each and every child deserves the best!
Sincerely,
Miss Early
